The Healing & Arts Studio, Inc. is a 501(C)(3), non-profit, public charity run for and by healing adult survivors of childhood abuse. For 12 years we operated The Healing & Arts Gallery & Gift Shop and produced The Healing Times, a free survivor newsletter. In addition the Studio served as a "Nesting Ground" for survivors to develop their own art/healing oriented entrepreneurial projects and helped sponsor three survivor-run businesses in various stages of development: Lilly's Art & Framing, World Bead & Design and Iris Weaver- Herbal Gifts.
Ellen and Lilly founded the Studio and ran the entire operations on a voluntary basis since it opened its doors in 1994. Both women are survivors of severe childhood abuse. They created the Studio as a safe, supportive environment to pursue their own personal healing work and their artistic professions, and as a safe place for other survivor artists and crafts people to sell their work.
Ellen and Lilly presently oversee the creation and developement of this website in order to continue reaching the survivor community and educate the public about survivor issues.
Our mission is to help bring an end to the destructive and often multigenerational cycle of child abuse. By speaking out we are breaking the silence and denial that have historically shrouded this issue. Through outreach and education we are increasing awareness and understanding and promoting healing and transformation. Through the creation of a physical environment, a "nesting ground" run for and by adult survivors for 12 years, we strove to promote the personal healing and self-empowerment of individuals who have suffered the social epidemic of interpersonal violence, torture, exploitation and abuse during the formative years of their life. Now more than ever our society needs healing.
